About PCI DSS
To address the emergent security breach crisis threatening credit card data and confidential cardholder information, the 5 major credit card associations formed the Payment Card Industry’s Security Standards Council (PCI SSC). This council devised a set of data security standards, now known as PCI DSS. These regulations mandate that anyone who processes, transmits, or stores credit and debit card information take specific steps to protect it.
The Importance of PCI DSS Compliance
Through simple and logical business practices, organizations who comply with PCI’s DSS reduce the risk of data compromises, uphold their business’ reputation, and maintain customer trust and loyalty. Non-compliant establishments are at risk of system infringements, being penalized with non-compliance fines, and suspension or revocation of card processing privileges.
